Who knew that 6 months later...

Rebecca M. would be flying into the finish of our first practice triathalon!
Very tough, very proud

Celebrating a remarkable recovery--exactly 6 months to the day since RM's stroke. Only 3 more weeks to go until our first full-length triathalon. (...and she also finished writing a chapter this week!)

Into the Light

Emerging from fog-laced Golden Gate Bridge, we biked and ran in the Marin sunshine, Rebecca G. earning highest praise from Coach Haakon: "Rebecca's a machine!" (Note to RG's dad: Flying Squirrel has without a doubt outgrown "the slows"!).

Like the Bike

Rebecca G. dreams she can fly (Mojo Cafe and Bike Shop @ Divisadero, a fave spot of ours).

Suiters

Our team hits the open water for the first time--in wetsuits (and monastic hats).

Serious Soup

Running through the thick sea fog, we encountered a flock of snowy plovers...and a lone fisherman (or two).

Cruise in the Scruz

Cycling in the Santa Cruz mountains seemed a great way to mark our friend Tom's 65th birthday. All the up made all the down even sweeter.

Biathletes

We rode through Golden Gate Park for a run on Ocean Beach--and could have been triathletes today, had the Sutro Baths not burned down in 1966.

Steam rising off the pool early Sunday morning

Nervous in Novato, right before our first swim-run with the team: 2k of swim drills and then about 6k on the running trail....all before morning tea?!

Getting serious about cycling

It was only an 18 mile ride, but it seemed to defy physics and be steeply uphill in BOTH directions—particularly hard climbing up past the Cliff House (note to self: don't do that with a flat tyre again...). Rebecca G. gave me a lesson on how to patch an inner tube, and, this being San Francisco in summertime, we headed for the nearest warming hut to thaw out afterwards.--RM
